B’nai Brith Canada Commemorates Remembrance Day;
Operation Thank You at York University

TORONTO, November 10, 2009 – As Canadians get ready to commemorate Remembrance Day, B’nai Brith Canada will be launching its annual Operation Thank You campaign with a special event at York University tomorrow. The student-led tabling at York University’s Student Centre will include an opportunity for students to sign Hallmark military greeting cards which will be sent to our men and women in Afghanistan. Operation Thank You is B’nai Brith Canada’s national grassroots initiative that urges Canadians in general, and students in particular, to send letters of support and requested supplies to our troops in Afghanistan.

“B’nai Brith Canada honours all of this country’s war veterans and greatly appreciates all of the sacrifices that these heroes and our troops in Afghanistan have made to keep us all safe,” said Frank Dimant, B’nai Brith Canada’s Executive Vice President. “Our men and women in Afghanistan are on the frontlines of the war that radical Islam is waging globally. B’nai Brith Canada is very supportive of the Afghan mission and through Operation Thank You hopes to pay tribute to our soldiers there.

“Operation Thank You has been a program of B’nai Brith for four years now. One aspect of this program is a specially-designed curriculum guide suitable for students of all ages that is being constantly updated and made available to educators across Canada. The guide includes sections on geography, history, and social sciences, all based around the themes of civic responsibility and patriotism. Operation Thank You has grown tremendously from when we first launched it and we are confident that we will get more and more students, and people of all ages and backgrounds, to join with us and send messages of support and requested supplies to our soldiers serving overseas.

“Our soldiers and their families are giving up so much to keep us safe and we hope that through our Operation Thank You we can give them just a little bit back.”
