B’nai Brith Canada Slams Disgraceful Goldstone Report;
Commends Canadian Government for Rejecting Process Leading to Report
TORONTO, September 16, 2009 – B’nai Brith Canada strongly condemns the U.N. Goldstone Report for its lack of objectivity in its sham “investigation” of the events of the war in Gaza. Canada and the many other states that had the good judgment to reject the process that lead to this illegitimate report should also be commended.
“The Goldstone Report is an outrage to any objective watcher of recent events in the Middle East,” said Frank Dimant, Executive Vice President of B’nai Brith Canada. “This was not a truth-seeking inquiry in any way. The UN bodies that gave Goldstone and his team their mandate had a pre-set conclusion in mind: Israel, as a collective entity, is a war criminal. Goldstone and his team, in the context of the UN’s notorious campaign against Israel, went on a mission to prove this disgraceful hypothesis and, in the process, attempt to demonize and delegitimize the Jewish State.
“It is unconscionable that the forces of Islamofascism, that have vowed to destroy Israel, are being judged on the same standards as a democracy that is trying to defend its citizens from terrorism. If the rules of war that the UN is trying to create were around during World War II, the allies would have been lambasted for defeating the Nazis.
“The Goldstone Report whitewashes Islamist terrorism emanating from Iran’s proxies in Gaza and makes a mockery of the realities the Jewish State faced prior to the invasion. The Jewish State has been under constant and relentless bombardment, over 12,000 rockets and mortars raining down on its civilian population, since it unilaterally withdrew from Gaza in the name of peace. Hamas has slaughtered dozens of Jews since Israel’s withdrawal and made the lives of millions of Israelis in southern Israel unbearable, giving Israel no choice but to respond to the terrorism coming from Gaza and deal with Hamas.
“The Canadian people have a government that has once again stood on the side of people of good faith in rejecting the process that lead to Goldstone’s prejudiced report. This, again, reflects the Canadian Government’s ongoing principled stance on the Middle East.”
